The workspace

Every page is its own canvas

Most tools decide the layout for you. This one hands you a blank page and every block you might want, then gets out of the way. It does the same for the next page, and the one after that.

Adding a block with ⌘K
Drag, drop, resize
Put every block exactly where you want it. The canvas remembers the layout for each page.
Pages and folders
Create as many pages as you need, and organise them into folders once there are enough to want one.
Page links
Select a word and link it to another page, then click through whenever you need it. Pages stop being separate documents and become one connected workspace.
Templates
Save a layout you like and start the next page from it instead of rebuilding it.
Command palette
Press ⌘K to search for a block and drop it on the page. Press ⌘F to search your whole workspace and jump straight to any page.

Notes

A writing surface that knows what a task is

Built on TipTap, so it behaves like the editor you already expect. The difference is what happens to the checkboxes you write.

Adding a scheduled date and importance
  • Slash menu: press / to insert a heading, list, table or equation
  • Checkboxes that carry a scheduled date, an importance level and a mini calendar picker
  • Code blocks, tables and fold-away sections
  • Images, YouTube embeds and file attachments
  • Equations, block or inline
  • A live Workbook block, right inside the note
  • Export to PDF
  • Autosaves as you type. There is no save button

One source of truth. Give a checkbox a scheduled date and it turns up on your Kanban board, your Task Calendar and your Focus Board. Change it in any of them and you have changed the note, because there is only ever one underlying document.

Workbook

A notepad that does the maths as you type

Write your thinking on the left. Answers appear on the right, line by line. Change an assumption near the top and everything below it updates.

USD to TRY at live rates

Name a line and reuse it further down as a variable. Pull a running total with sum. Units, functions, names and dates suggest themselves as you type, and Tab or Enter accepts them.

Type it how you would say it

10 lb to kg 4.5359 kg
72 °F to °C 22.22 °C
2000 usd to eur 1,842.60 EUR
15% of 340 51
1000 usd + 100 eur 1,115.60 USD
factorial(10) 3,628,800
5 ft to cm 152.4 cm

Around thirty functions, with autocomplete

Basic
sqrt · abs · round · floor · ceil · factorial
Trigonometry
sin · cos · tan · asin · acos · atan · atan2
Hyperbolic
sinh · cosh · tanh · asinh · acosh · atanh
Logarithms
ln · log · log2 · log10
log is base 10, ln is natural
Aggregates
sum · avg · min · max · clamp
Angles & constants
degrees · radians · pi · e

Dates work too: today() and date() support date literals and date math, like date(A) - date(B) to weeks.

Units and currency, built in

Length, mass, temperature, area, volume, speed, energy, power, pressure, time and torque, plus live currency rates. Aggregates work across mixed units too, so min(100 cm, 2 m) does the right thing.

More about the Workbook

Boards & tasks

Three ways into the same tasks

Every board reads from the checkboxes inside your notes. Nothing to sync, nothing to keep in step, because there is only one list.

Move work along

Kanban Board

Drag task cards between columns, and add or remove columns of your own so the board matches how you actually work. Moving a card updates the task in your note, because it is the same task.

See it against the month

Task Calendar

Everything with a scheduled date, laid out on a month or week grid, so a week that is quietly overloaded looks overloaded. Follow-finger dragging on mobile.

Where things actually stand

Focus Board

Every task split four ways: today, overdue, unscheduled, and today's done. Tick one off, reschedule it, or jump to the note it lives in without leaving the board. Scope it to a single page, any folder above that page, or everything at once.

Task Activity

A contribution-graph strip of what you have actually been finishing, the honest counterweight to a to-do list that only ever grows.

Less More

The catalog

20 blocks, one workspace

All the small tools you keep a browser tab open for, living in the same place as the work they belong to.

The pair you live in

A writing surface and a thinking surface, side by side.

Tasks & boards

Four blocks, one underlying task list.

Kanban Board

Your note tasks as cards you can drag between columns.

Task Calendar

Everything with a scheduled date, laid out on a month or week grid.

Focus Board

Every task in four quadrants: today, overdue, unscheduled and today's done.

Task Activity

A contribution-graph strip of everything you have finished.

Time & timers

Everything clock-shaped, in one place.

Everyday utilities

The small tools you keep a browser tab open for. Now they live with your work.

Canvas

When the answer is a drawing.

Online whiteboard

A full Excalidraw whiteboard, on the same page as everything else. Sketch a flow, a floor plan or a rough wireframe, in the hand-drawn style that makes it obvious an idea is still a draft.

Offline-first

It all runs on your machine

This is the part that actually matters. KontrolRoom is not a thin client for someone else's server. It is a workspace that happens to run in a browser tab.

Works offline

Everything is stored in your browser with IndexedDB. Close the laptop on a plane and keep working.

No account needed

There is no sign-up wall and no email required. Open the page and start working.

Your data stays yours

Nothing is uploaded. No analytics on your content, no training on your notes, nothing to leak.

Free to use

The whole workspace, every block, at no cost. Cloud sync is the only thing that will ever be optional and paid.

One honest caveat. Browser storage is not infinite, and no browser promises to keep it forever, Safari especially. KontrolRoom quietly asks for persistent storage and gives you one-click backup and restore, but if this is real work, read how your data actually stays safe .

Coming next

Want it on your other devices?

Cloud sync is being built, and it will stay strictly optional. The offline workspace keeps working exactly as it does now whether you turn it on or not. Leave your email and we'll tell you when it lands.

One email when sync ships. Nothing else, and no sharing your address with anyone.

Open a tab. Start working.

No install, no account, no trial. The whole workspace is there the moment the page loads.
